NDC | nav team presents:

“Increasing Access and Opportunities for *Deaf Students In Higher Education”

At the upcoming  AHEAD Conference,  NDC| nav team will be offering a 2-day  targeted preconference training opportunity for professionals. The aim of this session is to improve postsecondary outcomes by increasing  individual and institutional capacity to design accessible environments and experiences for deaf individuals. Read more below!

Day 1: Laying the Groundwork

We start by unpacking postsecondary outcomes with data and dialog. What are the gaps in postsecondary attainment and employment success for deaf individuals? Why do these gaps exist? Together we will examine root causes and seek strategies for designing accessible environments.

Next, Howard Rosenblum, J.D., Chief Executive Officer, and Caroline Jackson, J.D., NIC, Staff Attorney from the National Association for the Deaf will outline the legal framework for accessibility and institutional responsibility.  A wide variety of topics included, but not limited to, technical standards, captioning media, and accommodations for visitors will be covered.  Participants will have an opportunity to submit questions to be included in the discussion. Bring your curiosity and advance your knowledge of the legal framework!

Day 2: Designing Accessible Environments

NDC | nav team will provide a series of trainings on “creating access” in different postsecondary contexts, and targeted training on trending topics from the field. This training will provide professionals with a comprehensive foundation for designing accessible environments and fostering positive postsecondary experiences for deaf students. Participants will apply strategies and resources to navigate accessible environments.
